Amish-built polycarbonate greenhouse in a Virginia backyard garden

Amish-Built Greenhouses — Grow Year-Round

Hand-crafted greenhouses with polycarbonate walls and roofs. Delivered fully assembled, ready for your first crop.

Designed For Growing

Light Without Heat Loss

Polycarbonate panels transmit 90%+ of usable light while insulating 2x better than glass. Lighter to install, won't shatter, lasts 10+ years.

Real Ventilation

Roof vents, side vents, and Dutch doors — critical for heat regulation in Virginia summers, where a greenhouse can hit 130°F+ without proper venting.

Built to Last

Real wood framing, pressure-treated runners, metal roof options for non-glazed sections. Not a kit you assemble — a structure that lasts decades.

Every greenhouse is built by the same Amish craftsmen who build our sheds and barns — outfitted for light and ventilation instead of dark storage.

What Grows Well in Virginia

Year-round leafy greens

Lettuce, kale, spinach, arugula — hardy crops that thrive in spring/fall greenhouse conditions.

Spring seedlings

Start tomato, pepper, squash, and melon seedlings 6–8 weeks before the last frost.

Winter herbs

Basil, parsley, mint, and oregano grow well through winter with supplemental light.

Tropical / perennial overwinter

Citrus, figs, and tropical plants survive Virginia winters in an unheated greenhouse.

Greenhouse FAQs

Depends on what you grow. Cold-hardy crops (lettuce, kale, spinach, herbs) survive Virginia winters without supplemental heat in an unheated greenhouse. Tropical plants need heat — propane or electric heaters are available aftermarket. For commercial year-round growing, most people use a small heater plus an insulation upgrade.
Both work well. Polycarbonate (standard): twin-wall, better insulation, slight diffusion (no harsh shadows on plants). Plexiglass: single-pane, crystal clear, slightly more light transmission, more expensive. Most growers prefer polycarbonate for the insulation value.
Without ventilation: 130°F+ on a 90°F day — too hot for most plants. With our standard vents (roof + sides), the greenhouse stays within 10–15°F of outdoor temperature. Roll-up sides and shade cloth keep it even cooler. Don't skip the ventilation upgrades if you garden through Virginia summers.
Our polycarbonate is UV-protected on the outer surface (rated for 10+ years of full sun). Plain non-UV polycarbonate yellows in 2–3 years; ours has the protective layer that prevents that.
8x12 is typical for full produce production for a family — enough space for a 2-bed layout (one for leafy greens, one for fruiting crops/seedlings/herbs). 8x8 works for supplemental growing alongside an outdoor garden. 8x16 is for serious hobbyists or market growing.
Most Virginia counties don't require permits for greenhouses under 256 sq ft (8x8 and 8x12 qualify). 8x16 (128 sq ft) is also under the threshold. Check local zoning for setback requirements regardless.
6–10 weeks from order to delivery. Pre-built greenhouses on our White Post lot are available for faster delivery when in stock.
